Describe what you make or sell?

At Shhugar we sell handmade gourmet candy and sweet treats from yesteryear! Using nearly 200 year old recipes and no machines, we create yummy treats including hard candy, sponge toffee, candy canes, marshmallows, caramels and so much more. We offer flavours for everyone, ranging from classic peppermint and butterscotch to hot chili pomegranate and super sour acid drops! We also have sugar free candy, candies with no artificial colours, and a wide range of gift packs.

 

What inspires you to make what you sell? ~ OR ~ What are you most proud of making?

I am most proud of making my hard candies. I taught myself to make candy because my Mom wanted a lollipop one day and i decided to figure out how to make them. I fell in love with making candy immediately. I am originally from England and I wanted to learn how to make a sweet treat that I ate as a child called "Blackpool Rock". I was amazed at how they got words into the candy and and sought after learning their techniques. After nearly 2 years of constant practice, mistakes, and self teaching I am proud of being able to turn a pile of sugar into something delicious!

If you could travel far far away, where would you go right now?

England and Japan. I would love to train with the master candy makers that make the candies that I do. I still have so much to learn about this ancient art and it would be an honor to work with some of the craftsmen.
